The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is seeking the provision of a  support dog as part of a broader organisational wellbeing strategy. The role of the support dog will be to provide emotional support and comfort to employees. By engaging a support dog, the ODPP aims to achieve the following outcomes. These outcomes will be the responsibility for the ODPP to measure and quantify:

• Reduced employee stress.
• Improved employee wellbeing and engagement.
• Organisational outcomes (e.g. absenteeism/presenteeism).
• Alignment with other wellbeing strategies.
• Recognition of the ongoing management support towards a safe workplace and staff wellbeing.

The support dog will spend time in the workplace on nominated daily basis, and will be freely available for employees to interact with.

The ODPP is seeking the following options for sourcing the support dog services:

Option 1

Lease arrangement for 12 months, with further extension options as deemed by the ODPP.

or

Option 2

Support dog could be bought into the office (55 St George?s Terrace) regularly by a handler on set hours during nominated day(s) and be freely available to staff. A minimum of two days per week is anticipated. 

The support dog must meet the following requirements:

• Be at least 2 years of age.
• Be professionally trained. This should include but not be limited to basic obedience training, socialisation, and role-specific training (e.g. receptive to physical contact, making regular eye contact, actively engaging and responding to individuals).
• The support dog should be trained to function effectively without a handler. For option 1; and with a handler for option 2.
• Be temperament-tested for suitability to the specific environment and working context.
• Be health-checked and free of any transmissible disease or genetic condition that may impede its ability to fulfil the role.
